That Little Bookshop

Brand & Logo Design

Cassie, the heart behind ‘That little bookshop’, had a clear vision: a brand that captured the warmth of a traditional bookshop, wrapped in cosy comfort with a touch of magic. She dreamed of a brand that would work seamlessly across her online store, pop-up events, and eventually – her very own physical shop!

One of the most rewarding parts of creating brand identities is seeing the impact they have on a business. From the initial concept to supporting Cassie with materials for pop-ups, signage discussions, and the exciting opening of her new shop. I’ve loved being part of this journey.

Branding with a Touch of Magic

I wanted to bring a sense of magic to this branding, something that felt rooted in old English aesthetics while still appearing current, distinctive, and timeless.

I chose the logo font for its characterful lettering and decorative flourishes, which evoke the feeling of an old spell book. I then expanded on the font’s natural quirks by incorporating some extra flourishes throughout the typography, rather than limiting them to the beginning or end of words. This font had a very circular “O” that felt ring-like. I connected the double “O” in the word “Book” to create a stronger sense of this, as well as flow and a feeling of connection.

To further enhance the bespoke feel of the identity, I customised the first “L” in “Little” to form a subtle book symbol. This element is also used independently as a logo icon, helping to build a quick and recognisable brand association.

The logo suite includes both a long-format version and a box-shaped variation, giving the identity greater versatility across different applications and formats.

I created a complementary colour palette and added some bespoke illustrations that can be used to add further interest.

An Award Winning Result

That Little Bookshop is now an award-winning independent bookshop based in the town of Stafford. Cassie’s attention to detail has been instrumental in the shop’s success, and the consistent application of the new branding has helped create a clear and recognisable identity that perfectly supports her vision for the space.

Cassie fully embraced the strength of the brand, even extending it into a range of branded merchandise. Since launch, the identity has evolved through beautifully bespoke bookcases, welcoming community spaces, and layers of thoughtful, magical details throughout the shop.

Watching this beautiful business come to life — with the local community firmly behind it — has been a real honour.
