Bailey Hills Estates

Brand & Logo Design

After five years of pouring love and dedication into their new winery, Eloise and the Bailey Hills team were in the midst of building a visitor centre, and preparing for the official launch of their wine when they brought me on board to create their brand identity.

With tight timelines, the branding needed to be finalised swiftly to ensure the bottles were labelled in time for the big opening. Being freelance and working project by project, I can take on projects and get moving straight away when necessary.

This project had the bonus of being in my local town and I knew straight away that this would be an exciting project to work on.

A Brand Rooted in Place

The brief was rooted in the unique location of the business on the Hertfordshire/Essex border. This nod to location was important as the Essex wine industry has a fantastic reputation and the town of Bishop’s Stortford (where Baileys Hills Estates is located) is on the border of Hertfordshire and Essex. It is widely seen as a link between the two counties, so we needed to bring them together in this brand identity.

It was also crucial that we communicate the prestige and high quality of the Bailey Hills produce. Bailey Hills Estates is a new modern business and as such cannot lean back on its historical reputation. This is a challenge that all new wineries face in an industry where reputation is key. This branding needed to feel classic and timeless.

A Symbol with Meaning

A key part of the design process was incorporating iconic regional elements. I drew inspiration from the Hertfordshire stag and the three swords of Essex, combining the two by shaping the swords into the stag’s antlers. The idea came early in the process and immediately felt like a natural piece of symbolism — meaningful without feeling forced.

I wanted the final identity to feel refined, bold, and memorable. From this concept, the stag icon was developed and became the foundation of the wider brand identity. Today, the icon acts as the linchpin of the brand and is used consistently throughout the winery.

I then created a selection of logo variations, allowing the team to use the branding flexibly across different marketing materials, both with and without the icon.

From there, I expanded the colour palette, designed the wine bottle labels, and created a series of delicate hand-drawn illustrations to support the wider brand experience.

The result is a brand identity that truly reflects the spirit of the business — something Eloise and the entire Bailey Hills Estates team can be proud of. Since launch, the winery has gone from strength to strength and has become a wonderful addition to Bishop’s Stortford.
