Museum & Cultural Engagement Design
Creative design for Museums & cultural spaces
I create thoughtful, accessible and engaging design ideal for museums, cultural organisations, public spaces and creative projects. My work focuses on helping people connect with stories and ideas through clear visual communication and playful audience engagement.
Hi, I’m Jo, an award-winning graphic designer with over 15 years of experience. I’ve worked across branding, printed materials, signage, maps, illustration and visitor-facing design for a wide range of clients and collaborative projects.
Early in my career, while working in a London agency, I contributed to exhibition-related projects connected with locations such as the Victoria & Albert and the Imperial War Museums. I produced promotional materials for arts venues such as the Roundhouse and Transport for London. These projects gave me valuable experience designing for public environments and diverse audiences, balancing creativity with clarity, accessibility and practical use.
Designing for Audiences & Experiences
I’m particularly interested in working on design projects that encourage exploration, curiosity and interaction. As a parent of two, I’m especially excited about projects aimed at children and families as well as wider community audiences.
My recent design experience includes collaborative work on children’s books, event materials, independent retail projects and a lot of visual identity design, all of which have strengthened my understanding of audience-focused design and storytelling.
I understand the importance of creating resources that are visually engaging while also being easy to navigate, accessible and suitable for real-world use. This is fundamental to most design projects, however I know this is particularly important across gallery, museum and public settings.
A Collaborative Approach
Collaboration is central to my process. I believe communication is a key skill to good outcomes. I enjoy working closely with clients, curators and organisations to develop ideas. I’m confident in incorporating feedback throughout a project and adapting design approaches to respond to client insight and audience engagement.
I also understand the practical side of designing resources for real-world use, including accessibility considerations and printing processes.
Thank you so much for these and everything you’ve delivered.
It has truly been a fabulous experience working with you on what was a very daunting prospect for me and has been so easy, right from the beginning.
